What really grinds my gears?

You know what really grinds my gears?

It happens more often than not, where I hear people talking about an injury and certain comments come out as complete rubbish, so I can’t help but step in and offer up some “FREE” professional advice.

Most physios, like myself are willing to help others off the clock. But when people turn and say they tried some stuff they found on google or on instagram rather than ask a professional, it frustrates me to no end.

Yes, there is lots of information available on the internet but not all of it is correct, and most importantly, not all of it is meant for YOU.  Instagram, facebook, youtube, google. They all have some great content that come from experts in their fields. Unfortunately, not everything you see is great. And as I will point out in another blog, not everything is meant for you.

I admit, sometimes quick little tips that we provide people might not always be the correct answer or fix to the issue. A full thorough examination of the problem would be the smart solution to get a full grasp on the situation that presents. But the difference between us therapists and the web, our quick tips are not likely going to hurt you because they would still be relevant to the issue at hand. The web however, might suggest certain stretches, poses, exercises, etc. that might actually cause more harm than good.

To make things simple, trust a Physio when they are willing to give you some advice and be very cautious of what you find on the internet or hear from other people who are not trained professionals.

Yes, sometimes we may skip any quick tips and suggest coming into a clinic to be seen, but that’s purely so we can properly assess you and give you the best advice possible.  Most of us are in the industry to help people after all.

If you have an issue, speak with a professional first. If you don’t know one, be sure to find a reputable therapist in your area and get the issue assessed properly so that you can go about getting it fixed sooner and back to all the things you love.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email (arasruslys@gmail.com) or find me on instagram @ahh_rass_physio or facebook (Aras Ruslys- Physiotherapist).
